Influence of gambling on Nairobian Youths

Gambling has become a job to many youths in Kenya. Most of the gamblers countywide come from low earning estates and slums. Yes you can become a millionaire within a few minutes, what if you lose? Gambling has made the youths not even to save money for their plans all they think about is gambling, its not because they want quick money, but the see that that is their only chance of a job.
With this little knowledge that I have, gambling is the most addictive game in Kenya. all this has emerged due to lack of jobs for the youths. Gambling has made our city insecure due to frequent theft. The youths have become addicted to gambling.
as for me, i did my research in Kiambiyu Slums, Kamukunji Sub-county. These are some of the question is asked one of the leaders of the youth in the slum
1.        how do you survive in this slum?
Like me, I collect garbage on weekend, but the most common job in this area is gambling. We spend all of our money in gambling and forget that we’ve got s future to build and want to satisfy.
2.        which type of gambling do many of the youth in this area participate in?
Many of us do the sport-betting, followed by those small casinos and some of us play cards and draughts.

3.       In case you gamble and lose all the money, what is your next alternative of finding money?
There are only three alternatives, you either find a job;” which is very rare”, you borrow from your parents of friends or you steal ‘which is threat to the community and country in general and also”

4.        As youth, what step have you taken to cope with this disaster?
In Barshosho, 80% of the youths are in Youth Sacco this is at least evident to show how serious we are with our lives. If we get a job, we deposit the money earned in our Sacco and so  as when it reaches a certain target, we can start our own businesses.

5.       What message would you give to the government?
I know there's no hurry in Africa but just try your best to help us. Many of us just can't see where our future in Kenya is heading to. I remember the questions that was asked by Kubamba team at Ofafa Jericho High School, 'Do you think you have a good future in Kenya?' Many of the answers were "No" i think this message reached the government and I am hopeful that the government will mentor our youths and at least if possible, create jobs for us.
6.        Your message to the youth.
Our home is Kenya, let's not have negative attitude towards it. We should learn to appreciate what God Almighty has given us. what I’m kindly requesting is, O understand that gambling is addictive but less try to bet responsively. This is our land.  That small entrepreneurship can solve something in the community. It’s out time to shine,
